Greensboro's new housing initiative is going to revitalize the city

Greensboro's Affordable Housing Management has plans for new affordable housing which is going to revitalize the city.
The new housing is aimed at households at or below 30% and 50% of Guilford County's median income.
A lot of the housing around Greensboro is temporary housing assistance, so by the city adding in permanent housing, they are helping slowly fix the problem of homelessness and re-developing the city.
This initiative will bring the total number of supportive housing units built by AHM to 52 in the last 12 years.
Morgan Waterman, a representative for the nonprofit, said that Oakwood Park has been in the works for a couple of years but will not open the waitlist for applications until mid-2025.
According to data collected by the Guildford County, since 2016, the number of people experiencing homelessness has gone down 41%, but it is still at a large number.
Although Oakwood Park is the latest in new affordable housing for Greensboro, it should not be the last. We have seen the numbers of homeless people correlate with the number of affordable housing buildings and it shows that as more housing is available, homelessness rates go down.
The more that the homelessness rate goes down, the more the city of Greensboro will be revitalized with shops, restaurants, and historical projects, making Greensboro the city that it once used to be.
Oakwood Park will begin early this summer and is estimated to finish in 12 months.
"The new apartment homes will be very attractive, have ample square footage and be Energy Star certified providing better energy efficiency and performance resulting in lower utility and maintenance costs," said
David Levy, the nonprofit's assistant secretary. "The reduced electric cost and below-market rent will provide extremely affordable homes near shopping, restaurants, services, major roads, and employment centers."
Levy also states that it is a step in the right direction for Greensboro.
